Knauf Earthwool Insulation

Knauf Insulation manufactures a wide range of glass and rock mineral wool products for a variety of applications. Earthwool® insulation batts and rolls are extremely versatile and can be used in applications from wall and ceiling insulation to HVAC and industrial applications. Earthwool is a popular Knauf insulation brand – it is rot-proof, odourless, non-hygroscopic, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria. The fact that Earthwool has practically no smell is a huge plus for the many insulation installers who are used to transporting glasswool insulation around in an open van. It is chemically neutral, does not contain impurities and comes with a 50 year warranty. In practice, this means that whether Earthwool is installed at the time of building the home, or in a retrofit application (i.e. installing insulation in the ceiling of an older building), providing it is Knauf Earthwool Insulation Batts for Walls, Ceilings and Underfloors - Naturally brown correctly installed, you can expect the insulation to last as long as your home.

Low Itch Earthwool Insulation

Knauf Insulation Earthwool in particular has gained increasing popularity with both professional installer and D.I.Y. renovators due to its more comfortable handling. The exceptional compression packaging means more coverage per bag, which in turn results in reduced handling, transport and storage costs.

Sustainable and Easy to Install

Earthwool is made from renewable products such as recycled glass bottles and sand. It is less dusty and many installers claim it’s easier to cut and install than traditional types of glasswool insulation. When installing Knauf insulation in your ceiling, keep in mind that once open, the insulation will expand to several times its size. It’s best not to open more than one bag at the time, as this makes it easier and safer to move around in the tight ceiling space.

No added colouring

Knauf Insulation’s EarthWool® products with ECOSE® Technology benefit from a formaldehyde – free binder made from rapidly renewable bio-based materials instead of petroleum-based chemicals which is up to 70% less energy intensive. The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation’s glass and rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials without affecting the thermal, acoustic or fire performance. EarthWool® products made with ECOSE® Technology contain no dye or artificial colours – the colour is completely natural.

What actually is bio-solubility? Bio-solubility refers to the products ability to dissolve in bodily fluids and to clear itself from the lungs. Glasswool insulation fibres have been tested in laboratory studies according to EC protocols ECB/TM27 REV. 7, 1998 and shown to be biosoluable. KNS3 fibres comply with the short term biopersistence test and they fulfill the requirements of Australian and international authorities on bio-solubility. EarthWool® products are BRANZ certified.

  2. Mr. Haganrich says:

Would I be able to use Earthwool as an insulation around my outdoor water-heater tank (50 Litre)?

    • Pricewise Insulation says:

      Hi Mr. Haganrich,

Thanks for your enquiry. Earthwool is a glasswool product therefore it isn’t designed to get wet and won’t hold up well outside. A moulded PIR could however be suitable. You could talk to a company such as Crodie Pty Ltd for that product.

If there is anything else we can help you with please feel free to call us on 1300 729 639.

  3. Bob Hince says:

Is the 3.5 R Earthwool fire reisistant ? Packed around a Heater flue? How about around or ontop of electical wires for ceiling fans? Thans in anticipation of a prompt reply.

    • Pricewise Insulation says:

      Hi Bob,

Earthwool insulation is non-combustible, however the manufacturer recommends that a 50mm clearance be left around heater flues. Insulation can be installed on top of wires but its recommended that the insulation be installed under the wires where possible. Wires running between two layers of insulation will have trouble dispelling heat. If a wire is in contact with the plasterboard, timber or air it can get rid of its heat so avoid putting insulation on either side of the insulation.
