GreenStuf® Polyester AA Blanket - 48kg/m³ Acoustic Panels

AA Blanket also known as RT Blanket is a range of 100% polyester acoustic insulation engineered to reduce and control reverberated noise in building interiors. This kind of acoustic sound panel can be left exposed or installed behind perforated panels including slotted timber and metal ceiling systems to improve acoustic performance.

Helping reduce unwanted acoustic reflections and lowering reverberation times in building interiors. AA Blanket can be directly fixed to most common substrates or installed behind perforated and slotted panels to improve the acoustic performance of these type of products. AA Blanket will contribute to increasing the thermal performance of the building by increasing the R-Value of the wall or ceiling system. AA Blanket is a thermally bonded acoustic sound panel that will provide an industrial type finish.

Where a high quality aesthetic look is required, we recommend the Quietspace® Panel, please contact us on 1300 729 639 or email sales@pricewiseinsulation.com.au for more information and a personalised quote. The turnaround time is between 2 and 5 business days. Should you require a slightly lesser quantity or would like the soundproof panels cut to a different length or width, please contact us to discuss. The acoustic paneling sheets are unfaced, and can be cut to size with a sharp serrated blade.

50mm Insulation - Noise and reverberation control

The Autex sound insulation panels are are made from a dense polyester material, and absorb practically all reverberating noise. They provide the perfect cost effective solution to any area where excessive noise reverberation is a problem. It is usually not desirable to remove all reverberation from any environment, and the amount of reverberating noise which is deemed to be acceptable will depend on many factors. For example, some noise reverberation in a bustling café may be considered to contribute to the overall atmosphere, whereas the same level of noise in a library or commercial office may be considered a disturbance, and soundproofing panels would be considered a priority.

How the acoustic panels work?

Sound waves travel away from the source of noise and in enclosed areas may bounce repeatedly between hard surfaces. Angled surfaces, and soft, dense objects such as carpet, furniture and heavy curtains, all help to reduce the unwanted effects end reverberation of sound. The acoustic material in the acoustic insulation panels absorbs practically all reverberating noise, and when installed correctly can greatly contribute to a pleasant and acoustically balanced environment. Fiberglass soundproofing works on a similar principle, but this kind of insulation sits behind the lining of the wall.

Denser batts (higher kg/m³) hold more mass, so they absorb more sound and cut noise transfer between rooms better. NRC rates that absorption from 0 to 1.

Step by step

1Check and plan
  • Check the sheets are as ordered, free from damage and all from one batch; the batch number is on the label of each pack.
  • Remove GreenStuf from its compressed packaging within 6 months of manufacture.
  • Check that the weight of the sheets does not exceed the maximum allowable loading of the substrate or ceiling system.
  • Agree the order of work with HVAC, plumbing and electrical trades before you start.
2Keep clearances
  • Leave the required clearances to light fittings and electrical equipment; if in doubt, leave a clear 100 mm between the fitting or appliance and the edge of the insulation.
  • Do not cover or surround recessed lights or transformers unless the appliance manufacturer allows it.
  • Cut neatly around fire collars, pipes and penetrations, and never cover the face of a fire collar.
3Cut to size
  • Measure twice and cut once, always slightly oversize for a tight friction fit.
  • Use a straight knife cutting machine, insulation knife or insulation saw; heavy-duty snap-off blade knives suit holes for services.
4Fix the sheets
  • Fix with insulation anchors (shot fired, or pin style with a one way washer or dome), or with a contact-type or full curing panel adhesive.
  • Use fasteners equal in length to the total sheet thickness to avoid compression and pillowing.
  • Set fixings at no more than 600 mm centres and 100 to 200 mm from each panel edge; 11 fixings per standard panel are recommended.
  • Form the anchor penetrations first with a hot-knife, insulation knife or pointed chisel drill bit.
5Lay the panels
  • Install with the textured or patterned surface exposed to the room.
  • Fix from one corner, across the width, then down the length for a tight, flat finish; staggering the panels speeds up the install.
  • Join panels width to width and length to length, touching the substrate without compression and with no gaps.
6Allow for special locations
  • Behind perforated or slotted panels, make sure the AAB lays flat and covers all perforations or open areas.
  • Beneath a metal roof, keep a minimum 25 mm air gap between the roofing underlay and the AAB.
  • As infill in metal or timber-framed partitions, install with no gaps and mechanically fix drops at the top until the linings are installed.
