Proctor Passive Wraptite SA

Proctor Passive Wraptite SA is a self-adhered vapour-permeable air barrier membrane that provides a continuous, airtight, and moisture-resistant building envelope.

Benefits of Proctor Passive Wraptite SA

  • Self-Adhered: Easy application without mechanical fixings.
  • Vapour Permeable: Allows moisture to escape while preventing water ingress.
  • Enhances Airtightness: Improves energy efficiency and reduces condensation risks.
  • Durable: Can be left exposed to UV for up to 2 months during construction, before the cladding goes on.
  • Code Compliant: Assists in achieving NCC energy efficiency requirements.

Walls

Summarised from the Wraptite SA User Guide Australia & New Zealand (July 2025). Work from the full guide: it has the drawings and every detail. Open the full guide (PDF)

1Prepare the substrate
  • Make sure surfaces are clean, dry and free from bond-breaking contaminants, sharp protrusions or anything else that may hinder adhesion.
  • Wipe off loose dust or dirt with a clean dry cloth or brush, and remove and replace any damaged structural wall components.
2Check the conditions
  • Apply Wraptite only in dry weather when air and surface temperatures are above -10 °C.
  • Do not use it where it will be permanently exposed to UV, for example behind open-jointed cladding.
3Apply the first run
  • Snap a chalkline for guidance, pre-cut the membrane to length and roll the cut length with the release liner outwards.
  • Starting at a corner, peel back about 150 mm of release liner and lightly apply the adhesive side to the substrate with a hand roller or stiff brush.
  • When aligned, gradually remove the release liner while smoothing out air bubbles from the centre towards the edge.
4Roll it down firmly
  • Use a hand roller or squeegee over the membrane to get an effective bond, as poor pressure can cause air bubbles, especially in direct sunlight.
  • Roll over any bubbles that appear so the membrane bonds properly to the substrate.
5Overlap in shingle fashion
  • Lap upper courses over lower courses with horizontal and vertical overlaps of at least 75 mm, increasing to 150 mm on textured surfaces where needed.
  • Stagger vertical overlaps from floor to floor or separate them with a horizontal strip, and give internal and external corners an overlap of at least 150 mm.
6Protect the work
  • At the end of each working day, seal any non-shingled and non-adhered edges with a sealant and cover incomplete areas with a temporary tarpaulin.
  • Cover the membrane with the cladding as soon as possible and keep within the exposure limits in the table in the guide.
7Repair damage
  • Treat flush or penetrating fixings and small tears with Wraptite Tape at least 75 mm wide.
  • Fix peel-back and reverse shingle laps with Wraptite Tape overlapping by at least 75 mm, and replace membrane that has lost its adhesion.

Wraptite must not be used below ground or where it will be continuously in contact with or immersed in water.

Window and door openings

Summarised from the Wraptite SA User Guide Australia & New Zealand (July 2025). Work from the full guide: it has the drawings and every detail. Open the full guide (PDF)

1Fill gaps in the substrate
  • Pre-fill joints, gaps and cracks wider than 6 mm with a bead of sealant and let it cure fully.
  • Fill smaller joints, gaps and cracks with sealant and smooth it across the surface with a putty knife.
2Seal the corners
  • Cut a 150 mm length of YouByute Flexi Tape for each corner, or 200 mm for 140 mm framing.
  • Adhere it inside the frame flush with the inner edge of the studwork, stretch the rest over the substrate in line with the corner and seal it with a squeegee.
3Tape the upper corners
  • Cut 300 mm lengths of DriFlash Tape and apply them to the upper corners above the YouByute Flexi Tape, wide enough to fold 50 mm onto the exterior face.
  • Cut the tape at the corner so it splits into a corner piece, then squeegee outwards to remove air pockets.
4Dress the membrane in
  • Apply Wraptite SA across the opening and make diagonal cuts from corner to corner.
  • Fold all flaps back, adhere them into the opening and trim the excess.
5Tape the sill
  • Cut DriFlash Tape to the sill length plus at least 300 mm and apply it along the sill, flush with the inside of the stud and running at least 150 mm up each jamb.
  • Make 45° cuts in the overhanging tape, crease it firmly, fold it down and adhere it to the Wraptite with a squeegee or roller.
