Kingspan Air-Cell Permifloor 500 Underfloor Insulation
Australian-made Kingspan Air-Cell Permifloor 500 is an underfloor insulation innovation designed specifically for suspended framed floor applications delivering a 2-in-1 insulation and moisture management solution. Kingspan Air-Cell Permifloor 500 is manufactured with a patented closed-cell, cross-linked foam structure sandwiched by reflective foil surfaces and perforated with tiny, evenly-spaced holes. These perforations allow water and vapour to permeate through preventing moisture that can often collect under flooring when using conventional underfloor insulation systems.

Why does a building need underfloor insulation?
Without underfloor insulation, the floor inside the building will remain noticeably colder in winter time than the air-temperature inside. This is due a constant transfer of heat between the outside (underneath the house) and through the floorboards. It is a common misconception that the winter chill factor is mainly due to cracks or gaps in the flooring material. While this will also be a contributing factor, it’s important to notes that regardless how well fitted the floor boards are, the flooring material itself (e.g. timber, ceramic tiles etc) will allow a significant amount of heat transfer. Any cracks and gaps in the flooring material will only increase this heat transfer, and typically the floor will remain chilly during the coldest months of the year, regardless of how heated the indoor temperature of the home is. As would be expected, this heat loss increases the load any heating appliances, and the result is of course a corresponding increase in power bills. The solution to all this is of course underfloor insulation. Kingspan Aircell Permifloor 500 insulation is best installed during the building or renovation process (from above) just prior to the floor boards being fixed to the joists. In addition to the thermal benefits, underfloor insulation also helps to lessen noise transfer from outside and into the home.
