Knauf Earthwool Insulation Batts vs Bradford Gold Insulation Batts
Knauf Earthwool and Bradford Gold are two of the most well known home insulation brands in Australia. Both of these premium insulation brands offer numerous advantages to any home. As well as providing excellent thermal properties to help create a pleasant indoor space, they help reduce energy waste and improve acoustic quality indoors. Let’s take a closer look at how Bradford Gold and Knauf Earthwool Insulation Batts compare.
What are they made of & where are they manufactured?
Knauf Earthwool and Bradford Gold Insulation Batts are both glasswool products made from up to 80% recycled glass material. They are more sustainable and environmentally friendly than many of the other insulation products available.
Knauf Earthwool is imported to Australia from the United Kingdom and other countries and is designed to meet Australian standards. It is manufactured with innovative ECOSE Technology which uses a sustainable bio-based binder to bond fibre strands together. ECOSE Technology uses only natural raw materials and has no added phenol or formaldehyde, making it much more environmentally friendly and healthier than traditional glasswool insulation. No artificial colouring is added to Earthwool, so it is a natural brown colour.
Bradford Gold Insulation Batts are Australian made to meet Australian standards. Bradford manufactures their products sustainably, using up to 80% recycled materials and the remaining is primarily made from sand which is an abundant resource. Furthermore, Bradford recycles the water they use in the manufacturing process.
How do their insulating properties compare?
Both Bradford Gold and Knauf Earthwool Insulation Batts have excellent thermal insulating properties. They both don’t absorb any atmospheric moisture and are non-flammable. Bradford Gold Insulation Batts have low allergen properties and are 100% bio-soluble.
Due to the ECOSE technology, Earthwool is significantly less itchy, soft to touch and more pleasant to handle than other glasswool products. Earthwool Insulation Batts come pre-cut to fit most Australian homes but are easy to cut into smaller pieces if need be.
What product types are available?
Both Bradford Gold and Earthwool Insulation batts can be used to insulate ceilings, floors, and internal and external walls.
Earthwool Insulation Batts come in highly compressed packaging, making it easy to transport and handle. They come in a large range of R-values from R-1.5 wall insulation all the way to R-6.0 ceiling insulation batts. There is also a range of acoustic ‘Sound Shield’ Earthwool products which are ideal for reducing the transfer of noise.
Bradford Gold offers wall insulation batts of R-values from R-1.5 to R-2.7 and ceiling batts with R-values up to R-7.0. The Bradford Gold Hi-Performance range offer excellent thermal and acoustic properties.
Which one should you choose?
Both Bradford Gold and Knauf Earthwool products are used widely throughout Australia and are good choices for insulating your home. However, if comfortable handling is important to you we would recommend Earthwool Insulation Batts. Price is also an important consideration, so make sure to calculate approximate costs before deciding on which insulation to use.
