Knauf Insulation to Build €120 Million Insulation Plant

Knauf Insulation recently announced plans to build a new insulation plant in Malaysia to meet rising demand for its products throughout the Asia Pacific region. “We have seen record sales due to increasing energy costs across Asia and more stringent energy-saving building regulations in countries such as Australia, Japan and Korea,” said Stuart Dunbar, Regional General Manager for the Asia Pacific Region at Knauf Insulation.

The €120 million glass mineral wool insulation plant is due to be completed in 2020 and will be located in Johor Bahru in Malaysia’s south. The new plant will have a 75,000 tonne per year capacity and will generate 180 jobs in Malaysia with an additional 60 new positions in the region.

Milestone in Knauf’s Insulation Journey

Knauf Insulation’s Group COO, David Ducarme said, “We are delighted to announce our new plant in Johor Bahru. This investment testifies the long-term commitment of the Knauf Group to develop its insulation activities worldwide as one of its core business pillars. And it marks another major milestone on our company’s journey to become the world’s leading provider of innovative high-performance insulation solutions.”

State-of-the-art Technology and Control Equipment

The new plant will be one of the most sustainable and efficient insulation facilities in the whole Asia Pacific region. Using up to 80 per cent recycled glass in the production process is just one factor that makes the facility highly sustainable. Additionally, all the products will be manufactured using Knauf’s ECOSE® Technology, a binder that has no added phenol or formaldehyde.

High compression packaging is also one of Knauf Insulation’s trademarks. Not only is this convenient from a storage perspective, but more bags of insulation can be loaded onto a single truck, reducing the number of vehicles that are needed on the road. With an emphasis on efficient shipping logistics, Knauf hopes to consolidate its presence in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea and Singapore’s insulation markets. “The new facility will open many opportunities to our customers and partners to expand their participation in the developing market for sustainable and energy efficient buildings in the region,” said Mr Dunbar.

Proud to Supply Knauf’s Batt Insulation to Builders and Home Owners

Pricewise Insulation is also proud to be associated with Knauf and is excited about the prospects of a new manufacturing plant closer to home. “Knauf produces batt insulation that is consistently of excellent quality,” says Paul van Oord, managing director of Pricewise Insulation. “Our installers love working with Earthwool, because it’s comfortable to work with and soft to handle. Home owners also know that they’re getting a quality product that will make their homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It results in savings on energy bills year after year, which is good for their budget and the environment.”

Knauf Insulation is proud of its history in providing a high performing product, such as Earthwool batt insulation, to its customers and this could explain a rise in demand from consumers. Mr Dunbar said, “This is a reflection of the growing preference our customers have for the exceptional quality, performance, ease of handling and sustainability of our solutions.”
